Slideshow Freezes Frontpage ?

I have been trying to create a gallery in slideshow format , but when I try
to do it the progress bar never finishes, and I then have to ALT CTRL Delete
and end the program. Anyone know what may be causing the program to freeze
and not create the slideshow?

Are all of the images located in a folder "inside" your web??
Are you creating the slide show in that same location??

No, I'm not worried about publishing it yet, can they only be created for web
pages?

Yes, you must have web / site open first, then open a page, then insert the Slideshow component.

ok, i tried it from my web, I even tried editing it with frontpage from the
actual published page but still no dice; it gets stuck at "generating thumb
nails for gallery" on the progress dialog....

What file size are your original images

Also Have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

I tried doing the repairs, but still no go, what is the maximum file size for
pictures? I'd say my pictures range between 30 and 100 KB

There is no max, but you may be overloading you memory or video driver if you are trying to do too many, too large

Still sounds like you have *not* created a Web / Site first.

I'm glad to finally see that someone other than me is having problems with
this too. I do have a website to publish to but anytime I try to insert a
slideshow with images into frontpage it freezes on me so I end up restarting
the whole program again from scratch. i've done all the updates etc but it
still does it.
