Slide won't advance as I have it set in "Automatically advance".

My first slide is set to advance at 32 sec. (00.00.32). It doesn't. I want
the remainder of the slides to advance after 3.5 seconds. Please help me
find out what's wrong. (I'm supposed to have these ready for a Thanksgiving
reunion....yikes!)

Did you insert the song on the first slide? If so, have you set it to play
through multiple slides?
Have a look at:
"Play sounds across multiple slides (A WAV runs through it)"
http://pptfaq.com/FAQ00047.htm

Also, check the Custom Animation and the animations are playing longer than
32 seconds or 3.5 seconds(for rest of the slides). If they are playing
longer, than the slide will only advance after the animations are completed.

Thanks for the very quick reply! Yes, I have set a song file on the first
page to play until further notice (at which time I will set another song file
to play...but I'm not there yet). I've noticed that, afterI set up the slide
show with "Show all slides" and "use timings, if present", the setting go
back to "Advance slides manually" ( the Use rehearsed timings" gets a check
mark, even after I "uncheck" it.

I'm sure there's something I've inadvertantly made kooky....and I hope you
can set me on the right road. I really appreciate your help....just wish you
were sitting here beside me!

Hi Margaret

What actually happens? If slide 1 transitions as soon as the music is
finished I would make absolutely sure that you have the settings correct. Are
you using 2007 or an earlier version. As Shawn says if your animations on
slide 1 take longer than 32 seconds the slide will wait to finish them.

Get back and say which version and exactly what happens.

As well as the link above you might also want to read the link here and the
other "sound links" http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/keep_playing.html

Good morning, John,
I'm using PowerPoint 2007 (in compatibility mode for 2003). This will be a
very long presentation that I want to run without any intervention from me or
a viewer.

Here are the facts:
* The only animation in the project is on the first slide. It seems to end
perfectly and in the right place.

* In all, I'll have 11 .wav song files.

* I have a .wav song file, beginning on the first slide, that I want to run
until approximately slide 40.

* After slide 40, I want to begin another .wav song that will play for
another 30-ish slides.

In all, I'll be using about 450 .jpg files that I've compressed from within
PowerPoint. None of the files are bigger than 900 kb, even before
compression.

My biggest problems:
At the end of the animation in slide one, music continues but slide 2 never
appears.

I don't know how to adjust the timing between slides (assuming I can get
beyond slide 1). After I've set the timing settings, they seem to change
without notice.

I don't know how to make music fade in and out (but that's an "operator"
issue, not a PowerPoint issue.

I feel lucky to have found this PowerPoint discussion group, and you in
particular. I'm totally stressing out, because I need this presentation to
be done in about 1 1/2 days. Your advice is HUGELY appreciated!!!

Hi MargaretA

Easy stuff first - you can't fade sounds in powerpoint but if you download
Audacity (free) you can add fades easily before inserting the sound.

If you have wav files I think I would add the sounds as transition sounds to
the relevant slides . This (usually) does away with problems about playing
for a set number of slides.

Have a read here and then the other "sound" tutorials linked to the HOME
button
http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/embed_wavs.html
and maybe

John,

I have the first song added on the first slide (its effect is set to "after
previous"). This song is supposed to end at slide 35.

I have "Advance slide" set to "00:03:50" with the thought that this means 3
1/2 seconds.

When I click PLAY, the music begins but the first slide remains there
without ever advancing to the next.

I've spent hours, and have tried to implement the steps shown in the links
you provided. I'm still stuck. Surely it can't be this hard.

Give the exact scenario I presented above, can you explain how I can fix
this? I'll have to implement the same actions for the other 10 songs and
their associated sldies.

Thanks in advance!

Because I had to record this for someone else, here is a link to a short
video on the process for inserting your music and making sure the slides
continue. Can you watch the video and verify that this is what you are
doing?

Kathy,

What a great little tutorial! Yes, it shows mostly what I'm doing, except
for the following:

I already had my slides in the presentation.

I will use 10 songs. I want each song to cover about 40 slides, quit, and
go to the next song/slide series.

This will be a long presentation, with between 400 and 500 slides. I think
it will run about 40 minutes.

What must I do to get the show to begin correctly, transition through the
first song and set of slides, then stop that series and begin the next?

If this wil be a major ordeal, I'm willing to pay for help at this point.
I'm on a very tight deadline and quickly becoming a nevrous wreck!

Margaret,
Yes I can help out with that. Before we take this private, try this:
Add the first song to the first slide. Follow the process in the video and
set the music to play for 39 more slides. Set the second song on the 40th
slide and go for 39 slides. Repeat for each of the other slides. Test it out
and see if it works.

If you are having problems, unknot my address and we will take this
off-list. I have a conference call for the next hour, but can help after
that.

Hmmmm... didn't get anything from you. Did you unknot the address before
sending?

I tried to reply with your e-mail address. It came back undeliverable. I

When you email me, remove the word Knot from the address. Or squish the
