size of used capacity is larger than expect: means virus in my machine?

Matt

My machine is windows 2000. In windows explorer, I see the used capacity in
drive C is 10 GB. I know the
number is not that huge, and when I right click the files in drive C, it has
only 3 GB. Does it mean my computer has virus? I did the virus scan but
nothing was found.

any suggestions i can do? or tools to check? any advises?? thanks!!

Try running Check Disk on it to see if it finds and can correct any errors. After
that I would try to track it down by folder to see where it is being used. I have on
occasion come across folders that seemed to hold large amount of file without
containing may large files and usually just delete them. Do not delete any folders in
the \winnt folder structure unless you are sure they are not necessary. Make sure
your computer shows hidden and system files first in Windows Explorer/tools/folder
options - view. There are also utilities that can show how much disk space a folder
is using though I can not recommend one offhand but see the link below for
possibilities. I would also scan your computer with AdAware after deleting your
temporary internet files and cookies. Be sure to update AdAware definitions before
scanning. It will look for parasites that a virus detection program may not search
for. --- Steve
