SIS 7018 sound has intermittend gurgling or popping noises

Ever since I re-installed Windows XP and XP SP1 on my system, my SIS 7018
sound device does not seem to play audio correctly. The sound has a
gurgling / distortion that seems to occur, especially when there is disk
activity. I have tried updating the driver, but it still seems to occur. I
have checked the speakers, the connections, and everything seems ok. I have
tried changing various sound device settings such as hardware acceleration,
but nothing has helped.

Can someone help me on this? I am at my wits end trying to get the sound to
play without these annoying distortions.

buy a decent sound card. You can purchase one thats higher quality than sis for about 1.25 after tax at your local dollar store.
