Signal frequency oout of range

when running a couple of old "DOS" programs in XP home a red box pops up in
the middle of my screen stating "Signal Frequency is out of range " etc.
Afer a few minutes it disappears, and doesn't seem to effect program
operation. It is an annoyance. It was not seen on my previous XP
computer, but now I'm using a Dell, with an Intel (on board) graphics
adapter rather than the "SIS" adapter on my previous puter.
Anybody Help ???

I think this is what's happening....

The program is trying to change the screen resolution (or some other screen
parameters) and the result is outside the range supported by the graphics
adaptor or the monitor. The adaptor (or possibly the monitor) generates the
error message and ignores the attempt to change screen parameters and the
program works anyway.

Ideally you need to find out if there is a way to change the program to
operate with the screen settings you normally use. Perhaps by changing
parameters in one of it's command files if it has any?

If that fails try right clicking on the .exe and select "Properties". Select
the compatibility tab and try each of the "Display settings" in turn. You
could also try setting the "Compatibility mode" to Windows 95. I doubt this
will work but worth a try.
