Shutdown sequence on cold reboot

We have some Dell Poweredge 2500 and 2600s, one with Windows Server 2000 and
the other with Advance Server. We noticed on the Advance Server, when the
POWER button is pressed (cold reboot) that Server automatically goes through
the shutdown sequence before actually shutting down the machine. Windows
Server 2000 does not, it automatically shuts off, with no shutdown sequence.
Is there anything we can set up in the registry or settings to get Server
2000 to shut down when the POWER button is pressed or is this a feature
exclusively for Advance Server?

Thanks

These are PC specific setting, you usually need a "Power" driver
for your PC.
I'm quite sure Dell has these on their drivers pages.
This will usually end up in: Start>Settings>Control Panel
Look for something named "power management" or "power options"
There are the functions of the power and/or standby buttons
defined of your PC box.

Wouter, I found what you are talking about in the Power Options. I've set
up Windows Server 2003 on my local machine, the options in the drop down
has: "Do Nothing, Ask me what to do, Stand by and Shut down". The other
servers has only one option, "Power off" So your saying that Dell should
have drivers that support the option to shut down when the power button is
pressed. I have been unsuccessful of searching for these drivers at the
Dell site. Are you sure these drivers are machine specific and not a
component for Server?

Thanks again
Larry

Have you searched the Dell support site on your Dell machine
code, the service tag, or what do they call it?
