Shutdown on opening or saving attachment

Windows Mail shuts down and restarts every time I try to open an attachment
or save it to a specified file. Saving the file has been successul, but
Windows Mail has shut down. After two or three attempts the attachment opens.
I have used Norton Internet security for about 1 year now, and so far
everything went fine.

Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
A recent update to Norton seems to have caused this current widespread
problem.
Open Norton and have it look for newer updates. If no improvement,
be sure to disable its email scanning. If that does not cure the problem,
do a trial uninstall, followed by using their debris removal tool:

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:
