Shut Down delay

I have Windows XP Home SP3. It runs well. However, when I shut it down, one
or two programs would not stop and error messages pop up asking "End now" or
"Cancel". One of the programs is Java. How to make Java to shut down without
this error?

Hi:

Many items can cause the problems that you indicate from viruses and
spyware/malware to other items, but for starters why don't you try this
since you know one is Java etc.

Go to Start>Run>Type in "msconfig" without the quotation marks and OK.
This will bring up your System Configuration screen. Now go to the Startup
Tab and click on it. Now look under the Command heading for any that have
"Java" in them and take the check out. (You might have to take your cursor
and spread out the command name where you can read most of it.) Do this also
for any other applications that you are getting an error on shutdown. After
removing the check click on Apply and OK and it will ask you do you want to
restart computer and do so. When it comes back up you will have a new
screen, put a check in it and then OK. Hopefully this will stop your
shutdown errors.

There are lots of other non essential items listed in the Startup tab that
you can stop that will help both boot up time and shutdown time. However,
some are essential so use caution. I only have six that load on startup on
my computer and it boots and shutdown in minimal time.

ColTom2,
thanks for your suggestion. I removed Java and Plaxo, the 2 culprits, from
Startups. How I'm awaiting the next shut down...
I appreciate your help.
