update downloading issue

though i have been using computers for a while, i have found this issue
recently and can not figure out how to overcome it. i am running XP pro [now
ver.3] on 3 different machines, two Dell D600 laptops and a Compaq Presario.
plenty of ram [2gigs each machine] and P4 processors standard. the problem i
am having is when i go to shut down any of the machines, one laptop runs auto
update before shut down without a problem, the other laptop and the desktop
both shut down before the updates can be loaded. the one laptop now has about
100 updates to load, and the desktop has about 20. am i missing something
simple? how do i get the machines to auto update like they are supposed to?

Try running windows or microsoft update,select custom,in results,install 1/3
or so of them, you'll get better results than trying 100 or so updates at one
time...

Or, just leave it turned on and let it do it all at night and it'll be
over with quickly. There's little to be gained by sitting and watching
the updates happening.

Ah, good catch; I lost track of the OP's original problem. Sorry.
