Show Start Button

I did something to hide the task bar that was at the bottom of the
screen...now I can't get it back. I think I had right-clicked the task bar
and made it disappear.
Any ideas on how to get it back. Can't seem to find any option to make it
reappear, including the Start Button.

Hi Viper,
Press the Windows Icon on your Keyboards and when you see the All Programs
options, Right Click and select Properties on the taskbar Button go down in
the taskbar appearence options and look for the option *Auto Hide the
taskbar* and uncheck it and click apply.
Hope this helps

Nass,
Sounds like what I need to do--uncheck the Auto Hide the Task Bar.
But when I press the Windows button on the keyboard, I get nothing. So is
there any other way to get there?
The other problem is that the active windows get "suppressed" or hidden
behind the desktop.

Try pressing Ctrl+Escape. This is the old-school way of opening the start
menu.

Or try opening Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete or Ctrl-Shift-Escape), and
finding Explorer.exe in the Processes list. End it there, then go to file >
new task, and type explorer.exe. See if that restores your taskbar.

I agree with him, but it can also be because explorer.exe have crashed
but normally when explorer.exe crashes, another system process will
re-open it, unless you manually do end task.

It sounds like you may have dragged the task bar down. Move your mouse to the
bottom of the screen and see if the cursor changes to a north-south arrow. If
it does then click at that point and drag up to normal size.

All Good Ideas, but nothing worked:
1. the cursor does not change at the bottom of the screen.
2. rerunning explorer.exe briefly showed the task bar at the bottom (I think
it is there, just hidden), but running explorer.exe did not restore it so it
is seen.
3.control-esc does not do anything.

This is frustrating...any more ideas? As Nass said, I think I checked the
"Auto Hide the Task Bar" and all I have to do is get back there to uncheck
it., but can't figure out how to get there.

Hi Viper,
Try to apply which shawn said earlier and reboot by Alt+Del+Ctrl shut down
and see if that will help to solve the issue.
If not go to safe mode and system restore.
Good luck

You might want to try the following:
Hit the Windows + R keys at the same time.
This should bring up the Run box.
Enter the following in the line next to Open,

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Options_RunDLL 1

Note: There's a space between exe and shell32.

Hopefully, this will bring up Taskbar and Start Menu Properties
and you'll be able to restore access to your Taskbar.

Good luck

Nass and Nepatsfan,
I tried both suggestions:
1 went to Safemode and the Taskbar/Start Button appeared. I right clicked
and checked the settings--good. The Auto Hide buttone was not checked (which
is probably why I was able to see the taskbar). But when I rebooted into
full mode, the Taskbar was not there. So I guess the settings from Safe Mode
do not carry over to Full Mode...does that make sense?
2. tried running the line that Nepatsfan typed...I copied it into the Run
Dialog box so it was exactly as you had typed it....nothing happened.

Again, I think it is there...I just can't see it. The other point is that my
desktop is on top of any windows that I open, so once I minimize a window, it
is gone. I also have a bar on the left side of my screen which appeared
mysteriously about a week ago--it has Folder Tasks, Other Places and Details
as pull down menus. I can't get rid of it. Is that related to this problem?
I use Norton AntiVirus and feel confident that my system is pretty clean.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help so far.

You might also take a look in Control Panel -> Display. Click
on the Desktop page. Hit the Customize Desktop button. Click on
the Web tab. Delete any entries other than "My current home
page". You're probably going to need to boot into Safe Mode to
check this.

Good luck
