'SHOW DESKTOP" IN QUICK LAUNCH

I've read recent posts about this topic where people are writing in to say
the original 'show desktop' icon has disappeared from their Quick Launch bar.
I'm just setting up a new computer running Windows XP Media Center, and I'm
confused about this. Should I have had a "Show Desktop" icon on the Quick
Launch in the first place? I don't want to 'recreate' it. I just want to find
out if it's there in the first place. If not, can you tell me which is the
safer way to go -- entering "regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32" in Run or using the
instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;190355

The show desktop icon will be present by default. If one has deleted it and
want to recover, they can follow the steps listed in article Q190355. The
regsvr32 command restores the showdesktop.scf, but also restores many of the
missing values in the registry (for other problems).

For this problem, following the steps in Q190355 is sufficient.

Thank you, Ramesh. It never showed up as a default in my Quick Launch. I got
very brave and followed the Q190355, except that I just saved it to the
desktop and then dragged it to the Quick Launch bar. Seems to be working.

I'm curious about what you wrote about the regsvr32 command -- when you say
it restores missing values in the registry for other problems -- do you mean
it creates more problems or fixes them?

Also -- I posted a separate thread, but perhaps you can tell me, why is it
if I click in the desktop outside an active window, it does not make the
desktop active?

Thank you so much for your help.
