Shielding a process?

A

Anthony P.

Hello Everyone,

I've got most of my application written but have one more question
that I hope someone with experience will take the time to answer.

Because of the nature of my software, there is a very good chance that
there will be spyware and possibly software keyloggers installed on
the users PC. Being caught using the software might be illegal if they
use it for the wrong purposes so I'm wanting to protect my users.

Is there a way to shield an application or process from listening
ears? Let's say there's a keylogger on the system. Is there a way to
prevent the keylogger from seeing what's typed in my application? Is
encryption an option here or would that not be what I'm needing?

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

With the question phrased in that way, I doubt someone would help you
protect your customers in the event they want to commit an illegal act.

well, that depends what the illegal act is I suppose.
I'm part of a team writing a bit of software to allow users to
circumvent monitoring in restrictive countries like North Korea,
China, etc.
Under those regimes, it is illegal to bypass the spyware installed on
the computer.

So now, back to my original question: any ideas how one might
accomplish this?

Thanks!
Anthony

You could compile your software using Mono: http://www.go-mono.com/

Then you could boot from a Linux CD, such as http://www.monoppix.com/,
and run your software from a USB flash drive.

You might even want to encrypt your flash drive using TrueCrypt.

Isn't this standard procedure for anyone doing internet banking? ;-)

I lived in China 3.5 years. Left 15 months ago due to crap visas. Vietnam
now. Don't worry about it. The filtering is done in local languages with
the main focus on big sites.. They have no budget, third world, etc.

Smart money says you have Yet-Another-WOWbot in the works..

What are you hiding? Why do you care. Do your prog, be happy.
Job done. You can not be responsible for clueless users!

Post a FAQ, use virus scans, TOR, etc..
