ShellIconCache not found!

I'm using Windows XP Pro, and i have been having problems with my desktop
icons for quite a while. Sometimes desktop icons will disappear or when i
download something on to my desktop, it will not appear, however when i open
explorer and browse my desktop from there, the icons show up. The disappeared
icons on my desktop reappear when i lock my pc and unlock again, or when i
end explorer.exe from task manager and start the process again.

I've also noticed that i have no ShellIconCache in C:\Windows\ShellIconCache
Im able to see hidden icons but the ShellIconCache is just not there!! I
used TweakUI a few weeks ago and heard that it corrupts the ShellIconCache
file when repairing desktop icons, but i didnt check if i did have a
ShellIconCache file before i used TweakUI.

Please help, any info on how to rebuild my ShellIconCache would be great (I
do think this problem is because i have no ShellIconCache)

From MVP Kelly Theriot's site:

Shell Icon Cache - Clear/Delete

In Case you are having problems with the ShellIconCache file and
deleting it does not help, a quick method for fixing these problems is
to right-click on the desktop and choose Properties. In the Display
Properties dialog box, click the Appearance tab. From the Item drop-down
list, choose Icon. Click the up arrow in the Size box to increase it by
one pixel. Click Apply, click the down arrow in the Size box to return
the icons to their previous dimensions, and click OK.

Thanks for the replty. No disrespect but this is not a solution, in fact it
is as good as locking my pc and unlocking it again or terminating the
explorer.exe process and reopening it.
