Sharing

I just got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. I want to be able to share
my C drive with everyone on my home network without using a password. I went
into Network and Sharing Center and chose the settings that seemed
reasonable. Only the shared folders were shared. I went into Windows
Explorer and right clicked on my C drive and selected share. The share
option is greyed out. I went into advanced sharing and set up the C drive to
be shared and granted permissions. When I try to access this folder I get an
error message saying I don't have permission. How can I share my C drive
whithout setting up accounts with passwords?

You may to go to the C drive and then instead of trying to share it as just
the "C" Drive, you'll have to select "Make a New Share" option, name it
something you like, maybe something like 'Charlies Stuff' then apply the
setting so others to use that drive. The C drive is usually reserved share
(like C$) and cannot be shared in the normal manner.

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.
How to give Permissions are there, too.

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be
asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer
from an XP computer.

Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard.

Click Start > Network > on the command bar click 'Network and Sharing
Center' > click the 'Customize' button > under 'Customize network settings'
window, select the location type.

Thanks for the help Andre but I still have a problem. I can see my c drive
but cannot access it from my XP Pro machine. I can see and access my shared
folders. Please tell me if I missed something.

Network set as Private
Network discovery on
Workgoups are all the same
File sharing on
Public folder sharing on
Password protected sharing off

Went to Computer and right clicked on the c drive and selected Share
Went into Advanced Sharing and checked share this folder
The share name is C
Went into permissins - Group user name is Everyone. Checked box Full
Control.
Clicked OK OK
The C folder displays as shared
I also went into Security tab and granted permissions

When I try to access the C drive I get an error message saying I might not
have permission to use this network resource. Any help will be appreciated.
