SFC...

Hi there,

I used SFC /SCANNOW to check my operating system files and it indicated that
there was some files that were not correct and prompted for an insert from
the CD to correct these "unregistered" files.

I did that, and it went through the procedure and appeared to correct the
files and completed the SFC /SCANNOW.

Then I rebooted and did the SFC /SCANNOW to double check, and sure enough
it came up again indicating that that there was some files that were not
correct and prompted for an insert from the CD.

If it went through it the first check, it should have corrected it properly
and when I would go to check it a second time there should have been no
errors.

So, there is a problem, in that my files are not correct, and SFC "pretends"
to fix them.....??

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Gordon

Yes there is a problem. It arose in SP3 and was supposed to be fixed in SP4. Which Service Pack are you using?

OK now what I told you was true but after re-reading what you wrote I do not think you have a problem. The CD
ROM is always necessary when doing sfc because it is checking files you have installed against what is on the CD
ROM. It is not likely "fixing" anything at all. This behavior is normal.

You say it does give you a messagebox telling you that some files are not the right version both times? Hmmm...if that
truly was the case you should immediately get that prompt without running manually sfc or not. It should just happen.
After you run sfc /scannow reboot. If you don't get a messagebox telling some files are not of the right version than
you're fine.
