SFC scan errors

Hello grp: I hope someone can help me.
Standalone WinXP SP2 I am only user and admin.

I was just going through some of the more involved, or, deeper applications
available through the CMD app and saw the SFC function which scans the
original XP DLL's and then replaces them, if corrupt, through the
.../System32/DLLcache folder.
However, after running sfc /scannow
I got a pop-up telling me that the System needs to copy certain
(unexplained) DLL's and to insert my XP home CD.
Well, there's the rub: XP came with the HP pavilion a317x I bought. I -did-
receive 10 CD's after a system crash and reloaded from those..as well as
using a mailed CD with Service Pack 2 update, but none of those discs
appeared to satisfy this machine's requirement. I kept telling me "wrong CD
loaded....etc" no matter which ones I inserted.
Now I'm worried: obviously, there is a problem detected by SYSTEM in the
original DLL's and I certainly want to correct whatever problem that may be,
but am currently at an impasse...lots of supposed CD's that MUST hold the
info SYSTEM is demanding, but for whatever reason, SYSTEM doesn't accept
those CDs presented.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the HP disk set. Judging by the number of CDs it
sounds like they are a multiple disk image (exact copy of the original
drive) instead of install media.

If your HP CDs are not recognized as sources by SFC perhaps there is a main
i386 folder on the drive. Similar to the old Windows\Options folder it
contains copies of the original Windows files in compressed form. If
present, it may be C:\i386 or tucked into one of the HP folders.

As Service Packs are released, a folder is added under Windows. This will
be labeled $ServicePackFiles$ and contains an additional i386 subfolder.
Any files in this location that are newer version source files - different
than the original i386 files.

In the registry editor you'll find at least two references (SourcePath and
ServicePackSourcePath) to the locations of these file stores in this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

If necessary, you can edit the paths to the relative i386 folders on your
system. Helpful to know if they're different from the default locations.

The following site is not a Microsoft site but they have a pretty decent
write up about how Windows File Protection and SFC work.
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Also, if unable to find original source for files (i386 folders), you'll
want to contact HP and ask them how you should implement SFC with their
system setups.
