Setup hangs

Hello,

I've got a weird problem:

When upgrading a printer-driver (FinePrint), my system objected, because
a program still used one of the files. Nevertheless, the install-process
went on.

Afterwards, however, I could not access "system/printer" anymore.

When I tried to re-install Windows2k (which I have been running for
years without major problems), it asked whether I wanted to repair the
given installation, which I acknowledged.

The setup started ok, but after hardware-detection it hangs in the
installation of network components (please excuse inexact terminology, I
run a German system here and have to translate) for hours.

When I quit and re-boot, it still re-starts setup ad requires the Win2k
CD-ROM.

Even the emergency disk is of not help.

When the system hangs in the unfinished setup, I can access a "DOS"
Window by pressing SHIFT-F10, and I can see, that all my data is still
there.

But I can't get the setup to quit or to have Windows start up far
enough, so I can access the data or even my Nero.

I don't even figure out how the start a full setup (not a repairing
process), because when I re-boot, it starts up automagically.

I have tried pressing F8 and using the "secured mode" whith and without
networking-drivers, but everything is still the same.

Any hints anyone?

Thanks in advance

A.Körber,

Have you tried removing the NIC card and then running the installation?
This might allow the install to move past this part of the process. Then
you could re-install the NIC after the server software is installed.

Are you configured to boot off the CDROM in your BIOS? By setting this you
should boot of the installation CDROM begin the installation.

Best regards,
Blane Clark

Thanks, but this is a notebook with the NIC on board.
