Setup.exe will not run on this PC

I am trying to install a program from my CD drive but it will not let the
setup.exe file run. If I put the CD in my laptop it run perfectly.

What could be causing the proble,. I am running XP Pro SR2 with all the
updates. Its a stand alone PC. Deactivating the anti-virus (Nod32) has not
helped.

Thankx

Any error messages or entries in the event log?

You should report what exactly happens when you try to
run setup.exe. "It will not let me" does not mean very
much.

Have you tried Safe Mode?

Nothing. When you click on the install in the menu nothing happens. I have
tried to launch setup.exe directly from the directly from the CD sub
directory but that has also not helped. I have copied the CD to my HDD and
tried running it from that location but it also did not help.

When I go to task manager it shows that the setup.exe is running but after
30 minutes nothing has changed.

Thanks for that. Tried the safe mode and it solved the problem but what do
you think was blocking the installation when not in safe mode?

You are in a much better position to work out what
blocked the installation program. It was obviously
something that loads in Normal Mode but not in Safe
Mode. Run msconfig.exe and check the Startup tab.
There is something in there that is not part of Windows
and that blocks certain commands.
