setup cannot detect drives

I'm currently running Windows XP professional on an 80
gig Maxtor hard drive, with a second 120 gig Maxtor for
file storage. I'm trying to perform a clean install by
performing an automatic boot from the CD, then deleting
and recreating my primary partition. I can get Windows XP
setup to begin (the first couple blue MS-DOS screens),
but then it's giving me an error that it can't detect any
hard drives, so setup cannot continue. Is there a fix or
a workaround for this? Since I'm using Windows XP on them
already, I'd assume it's not a compatibility issue.. =\

The problem lies in your BIOS settings for your hard drive.
Read your motherboard's User's Manual and it should explain
how to correctly setup your drive's settings in the BIOS.
