'Setup cannot copy' error message

I'm trying to uninstall the messenger component of XP SP2 and install IIS.

However I keep getting the message, eg, 'Setup cannot copy zClientm.ex_'.
(There are lots of them - this is just the first example trying to uninstal
messenger on its own.)

The original installation of the OS CD is in the drive and if I click on the
browse button to locate the file after I get the error message I can
immediately see it on the CD - but its just not recognised.

I've tried it with the pc in safe mode and selective startup with just MS
services running (to stop AV and antispyware from possibly interfering) but
still the problem repeats itself.

The OS is fully up to date with updates and patches and the PC is virus
free.

Does anyone know how to overcome this.

TIA

Rob

The installation CD was dirty; the dirt caused a foul read, and couldn't copy
the file from the CD.

Tx for that. Although the CD was a bit grubby it didn't make a difference.

I've just done a repair to the installed OS from the cd and that seemed to
sort things out.

I had the same problem. I searched my hard drive for zClientm, and found it
in C:\Program Files\MSN Gaming Zone\Windows

This crap is part of the windows internet games. I uninstalled it and
problem is solved.

To uninstall it go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove
Windows Components.
Select Accessories and Utilities, click Details.
Select Games, click Details, uncheck Internet Games. Hit Ok, Apply and
whatever...
