Setting the sound volume for individual sounds?

What method should I use in setting the volume for an individual sound, for
example me getting e-mail?

When listening to the radio, I set the volume for comfortable listening but
when new mail arrives the new mail beep is far too loud.

What can I do?

Oh, that I knew! I wanted to know if I could set the volume for only one
specified sound, such as New Mail, independent of all other sounds......
