can the volume of a mp3 song be reduced?

Hello:

is there a utility that can make a new copy of a mp3 song, but with it's
sound volume permanently incresed or decresed?
(because when listening to a collection of songs, some have volume too high,
ot too low, relatively to others).

thanks
Maurice

Not sure, but I believe a program called Audacity can make adjustments like
that. It's free and does nothing nasty to your computer, so if I'm wrong
about this particular capability, you've lost nothing but a little time.

Download and install iTunes. If "Sound Check" is selected (at
Preferences/Playback) it automatically adjusts all your songs playback
volume to the same level.
To reduce the file length you need some technical expertise in order to
not degrade the quality too much.

My personal favorite is MP3Gain
http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php .
It allows you to select individual songs or whole folders. Simple to work
with and gives great results.
(And it's free!)
