setting margins

Hello and Thank You for any help,
My problem is margins. When I set the margins on
documents I am writing in Microsoft Word, the margins
have a habit of moving on me. Often when I set a tab, for
example, and hit the tab, the left margin jumps and
messes up my whole document. Also, it will arbitrarily
change from Normal to Footer before I realize it and that
messes up the paragraphs. Is there someway to permanently
set the margins so they will not move unless I want them
to move?

Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type. Clear all the boxes in
the top and bottom thirds of the tab. The two that are causing you grief are
"Define styles based on your formatting" and "Set left- and first-indent
with tabs and backspaces." If you have Word 2000 or earlier, you want Tools
| AutoCorrect | Autoformat As You Type for most of the settings, plus "Tabs
and backspace set left indent" on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.
