set selected account to receive only

Hi folks.

I have 2 email accounts with 2 different ISP's. I'll call them:

(e-mail address removed)
This is my default account. Optus is my cable, always connected, ISP. I have
it set to send & receive in Outlook.

(e-mail address removed)
This is my email only account. An old dial-up account I used before I got
cable. I never dial into this account so I never use it to send. I have set
this account to receive only in Outlook.

Trouble is, Outlook is still trying to send with this account. In the
send/receive window I'll see:

(Tick) Optus - sending and receiving
(Tick) Powerup - Receiving
(Exclaimation) Powerup - Sending

The error message is:
Task 'Powerup - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to
the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server
administrator or ISP.

Why is it still trying to send with powerup when I've unchecked that option?

Maybe there's a message or receipt from one of the messages from that
account. Have you tried setting the SMTP server for that account to the one
you use for your other account?

Hey Vince

Thankyou so much for your advice. I changed the smtp on the powerup account
to the same as the optus account and hey presto - it's all good. Your a
champion.

Hi, I have a similar problem in Outlook 2003. I have a Bellsouth account in
one office and a Cox communications account in another office and city. They
both need to be able to send and receive but only when I am at the respective
office. Even if I select the account I want to send from the task bar it
will send the message but then it also tries to send from the other account
repeatedly and gives errors. I cancel the send receive but it tries again
later. They will eventually clear when I go to the other office. This
happens even though I go to the Send/receive settings then define groups,
then edit, and specifically tell that account not to send or receive. Any
ideas?

Same advice, you have to switch both accounts to use the valid SMTP server
for your location
