Service packs 3&4

I'm running windows 2000 on 2 computers, I put service
packs 3&4 on one machine OK but when I try to install
either service pack on the other one I get a blue screen
on reboot & a message saying, If you are getting this
screen for the first time reboot your computer again if
you get this screen again remove all newly installed hard
drives hardware etc. I have to boot to safe mode &
uninstall the service pack and then the sys. runs OK
again. Any ideas why installing the service pack is
causing the boot failure???

It would help to know the bugcheck info, especially the second line of text
on the screen. A good place to start is

Messages During Installation", that should be especially interesting.

You don't need to put service packs 3 & 4 on the same
machine. SP4 is cumulative - it includes all the fixes
from SP1 through SP3.
