Service Pack 2 Downloaded yet??

Service Pack 2

Has Service Pack 2 Downloaded yet?? A support person at a
local college said that this would not happen until
8/16/04. In checking Add/Remove programs, I noticed
several Windows XP Hotfixes with (SP2) beside them. Are
these hotfixes just part of critical updates, or
preparing my system for Service Pack 2, or something
else. When I checked the General Tab under My Computer,
it says I still have Service Pack 1. Any info or ideas
are welcome. Thanks

What you are seeing is not the actual SP2. Microsoft sent out a few updates
that were absolutely neccesary before the actual SP2 release was out. These
files are included on the sp2. But it's defintaly not the whole sp2

Those are interim fixes, which will wrapped up into one with Service Pack 2.

You mean is it available for download yet?

Yes and no. A full image (266MB) of an installation CD is
available at

General downloads, customized for your computer (and much
smaller), will begin on August 16.

Microsoft's nomenclature is terrible here, and this has confused
no end of people. These were just regular critical updates, but
candidates for inclusion in SP2.

it says I still have Service Pack 1.

Correct. having those "SP2" updates does not mean you have SP2.
