Service Pack 1a for XP

I noticed that Windows has a service pack 1a for XP
users. Apparently this can be used in place of
the "original" service pack 1 that was released in Sept
2002 (assuming you haven't already loaded service pack 1)

I just recently had to reload my operating system and have
not loaded service pack 1 since I was told my many people
of problems they experienced in their operating system
after loading service pack 1.

Does anyone know if Service pack 1a was designed to
eliminate the performance problems that Service pack 1
created?

Any input would be appreciatd!

SP1a was "designed" to not have the Java Machine S/W that MS lost the lawsuit
over. Other than that it's the same as SP1.

I've installed SP1 on several machines and never had a
performance problem resulting from it.

SP1a is identical to SP1 except that it doesn't contain the
Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, since Microsoft is prevented by
court order from distributing it.

The sole difference is that SP1a leaves out the Microsoft Virtual
Machine engine, for Java, under the court ruling in the case with Sun.

If you get SP1(a) as a whole - the big 'Network' download or via buying
the CD, there ought not to be a performance penalty. Those seem to have
arisen with the Express method, I think from leaving early versions of
the patches around rather than doing a comprehensive job
