Service or Driver failure

J

JD Long

On start up a message says: "At least one service or
driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to
exzmine the event log for details."

When I examine the event log I see two errors on top, the
first says "The Eplpdxo2 could not be started." The
second says "The The service manager failed due to the
following error: The parameter is incorrect."

I've been completely through the Device Manager with a
fine tooth comb and reinstalled drivers when "Properties"
returned questionable results, restarting after each re-
intstallation.

I know the service manager has something to do with
networking. I have an HP laptop connected to my desk top
through a four port Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router
then to a Toshiba PCX2500 Cable Modem.

I have an old copy of Microsoft Works 3.0 that I've been
using for years and am comfortable with. I have it loaded
on my laptop with Windows XP and have had it on this
desktop before I upgraded hard drives using Windows 2K
pro. Now When I start Works and load a data base the
screen just shakes and the fields requireing mathmatical
computation doesn't function. I have to use task manager
to close the program. Can the two events be tied together.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Thank yo for your response Dave

I do have an Epson Stylus Photo 82 connected via USB
port. The printer works fine.

I just visited PC Pit Stop and ran their diagnostics.
Among the problems detected were
* ECP Printer Port (LPT1) [Problem code 31]
* Parallel Class Enumerator [Problem Code 31]

According to MS Problem code 31 means "This device is not
working properly because <device> is not working properly.
(Code 31)

To view the properties for <device> and see why it is not
working, click Properties."

I can see how the enumerator problem may affect Works if
it is a necessary math function, I can't rationalize the
parallel part of the name.

I'm stumped. I really hate to re-install my OS and
everything that entails. Thanks again for your help.

Cheers
JD

I would say the hardware errors and the application errors are unrelated to
each other.
1.) You mother board bios may need an upgrade.
2.) The application may need to be reinstalled.

My bug is back
I installed my Epson 820 yesterday and used the computer /
printer combination extensively. Everything worked fine.
The Epson is connected through USB2 and an HP 4000 through
LPT1. Both worked as designed. This morning turned on
comp and it went through start up only to restart over and
over. Went to safe mode with network, checked device
manager, everything is functioning properly. Checked the
event log. This is the reported error ................
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000

User: N/A
Computer: MAINFRAME
Description:
The Eplpdx02 service failed to start due to the following
error:

I checked the Application Log and this is the first of two
errors...............

The second............

I can't find anything to explain what "Eplpdx02 service"
is or does.

I'm lost

Eplpdx02 believe it's an Epson printer and or emulation driver. You may need
to get in touch with Epson and or HP tech support.
