Server can't shutdown or restart

S

Steve

When I try to reboot or shutdown my Windows 2000 server it
hangs and i have to manually power off and power on the
server. There are no error messages in the event logs.
Any ideas?

First, try updating the BIOS and look for updates in drivers.

Where does it hang? If it hangs at the black screen with blinking cursor,
it's probably a device / device driver. If it hangs somewhere else, it
might be a service/application.

What if it hangs at the blank blue screen? I either have
to power it of then back on, or walk away and come back
after about 5 minutes. Can anyone help?

It's probably a service or application -- try following the steps in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315409 or using tools like taskmanager and
msconfig to locate problem services and applications.

Cheers,
Daniel
