Sending to DV with USB

I am confused. I keep reading that Firewire is required to capture from and
print to DV cam, however, I successfully captured through USB from DV, but
can not seem to send back to DV through USB. I think if I can capture
through USB, I should be able to send back through it. I have both USB and
Firewire on my camera, but my PC only has USB. I would REALLY like to be
able to do it through USB. I know Firewire is much better quality and speed;
it just isn't an option for me right now. Help, please!?

What computer? PC/Mac? Operating system?
What camera? Brand & model number?
What software did you use to capture?
What kind of file did it create? File extention?

I've not got a usb enabled cam so can't test, but people say
they can do this sucesfully with USB,

I'd like to see that. The only camcorders I've heard of which
use USB are either the mini-DVD camcorders which are
using MPEG2 (rather than DV), or else low-rez webcams.

I have a Sony TRV-460. I can capture with USB. Made a few clips at first,
then bought a firewire card and cable and haven't looked back since. For the
$30 or so, its a better investment than the hastle with USB.

Seems unlikely that you were getting full-speed, full-frame
DV video out of the USB port. That is why the Firewire
(aka. "DV" or "iLink") port is still there.
