Sending mail

Most times when I send an email either forwarding or creating my own,
generally with attachments, I get the following error message:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems or a long period of
inactivity. Protocol SMTP Port 25, Secure (SSL) No, socket error. 10053
Error number ox800ccc0f

Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

But it works sometimes, right?

What Anti Virus are you using? Some of those cause delays, there should
be no need for it to be checking outgoing mail if that's what it's doing.

How big are the attachments? Are you having problems with anything else?

What kind of internet connection do you have?

If a laptop does this happen at home or away from home?

Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which seems to cure the problem.
If interested, contact Symantec via online chat.

Disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. Do a trial uninstall,
followed by using their debris removal tool:

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

Yes this does work most times without an attachment and on the "ODD"
occasion it will send with an attachment. It doesn't seem to matter what
size the attachment is. I've managed to have one go through that is 6MB and
ones that are only 53KB don't???
I'm using Norton Anti Virus and although it does scan the outgoing emails
(which I would like to disable somehow) I've actually contacted them
regarding this and we disabled and uninstalled the program and I still get
the error.
I'm using and ADSL connection and the laptop connects via wireless router.
The laptop is at home and I've never taken it out of home to see if there is
still the problem. We do have another laptop in the house that we use for
business purposes and don't seem to have any issues with that at all, however
it does use outlook for mail.
The only other problems I have at the moment is that it is very slow when
browsing the internet. This is a brand new laptop and I wouldn't think it
had any issues with me having to delete internet files/cookies to help with
the speed but hey... I tried that anyway.

I agree with Gary, and Norton tech support is dubious sometimes. Why any
company supplies and uninstaller that then needs another go over with a
"Debris Removal" tool has to make you wonder :)

A good rule when removing security software it is to first prevent it
from automatically starting when Windows starts and then reboot before
uninstalling, so you can make sure there are no components left running
in the background. What can happen is that some "Protected" parts of the
software don't get removed but the controls do, so thereafter you are
stuck with (say) a firewall complete with settings and no way to control it.

Either way don't do anything hasty. What you can also do is visit the
maker's website and check for Driver updates and other stuff. Yes it's
new from your perspective but may have drivers on the networking side
that have since been modified. Also check for any forums they may have
and sometimes a plain old Google search for words like the model number
and "Slow" or "Attachment" or similar can land you right on a solution.

Thanks Charlie and thanks Gary. I'll take on board what you have both
advised. I'll do some investigating first and then take it from there. I
just have to fit all these tasks in between 2 kids at the moment so I can
never get straight onto it!
Appreciate you advice:)
