Send/receive stops after downloading 3 messages

When activate the Send/Receive button, the Outlook downloads 3 e-mails and
then stops. Outlook Doesn't freeze or lock up. It's as if there were an
immense file that it was trying to download. The progress bar shows a little
progress but very slowly. After 5 minutes the last line on the dialog box
indicates it is receiving 5 of 44.

Any idea of what is going on?
