Segate 250G hard disk clicking death.

Googy

Hi,

I am running windows xp sp2, and baught 250G segate harddisk a few
days back. When I turned on my system I was astonized to find that my
sencond hard disk is not visible after careful observation I came to
know that my new hard disk is dead, I lost all my data onit.

The importent thing is I got a new slim cpu case along with upgrade,
my old hardisk is in horizontal postiion and new harddisk is in
vertical position, What I want to know is "Positioning has any role in
death of my harddisk." Anyway I will get a new harddisk replacement
with in few days, I just want to avoid incidents like this.

The mounting position has no measurable impact on the drive life. Any
electronics device should not be counted on for the first X days until
it's burned in. I typically don't count on a drive, residential grade,
for the first week.

This is another reason that learning about Backups is important and
almost always overlooked by residential users (and some businesses).
