Security won't allow me to download files

Hi,

Just recently, there are files that I can no longer download, such as
RealPlayer. Also, since I'm the only person who uses my pc, I've always
checked the box to "remember my name and password" and now my name is
remembered but not my passwords. I tried to reduce my security settings, but
I couldn't. For each of these instances, I receive a message that states
that my security settings don't allow me to do this. I haven't changed my
security settings but something's changed. What can I do so that I don't
have this problem anymore?

What is the operating system - XP Home or XP Pro?? Have you installed any
internet protection package or spyware program and then configured it to
lock your computer's settings? If you have not your computer may be infected
by malware or spyware and they changed your settings in an effort to prevent
you from managing your computer. Since you have unexplained computer
behavior you should scan your computer for malware and spyware and also do
it in Safe Mode being sure to use the latest virus definitions for what ever
you scan with though there is no guarantee that it will fix your problems.
If you do not currently use a spyware program I suggest you download and
install the free for personal user AdAware [assuming you eventually can
download or download from another computer and burn to a cd/DVD]]. There are
also free websites to get virus scans though you should still do one
locally. Be sure to read the tips in the first link below that shows the
basics in protecting your computer and also has links as how to deal with
malware [viruses, worms, and trojans] and spyware. --- Steve
