Security Update KB834707 fails on XP-Embedded SP2

Hello!
I've try to update my xp-embedded sp2 image with the Securtiy Update
KB834707 without success. I've got the following Message:

-Setup Error
-The systen cannot find the path specified.

On XP-Embedded SP1 with Desktop QFE Installer updates with XP-Pro Updates
works quite fine.

But SP2 for XP-E did not include the component.

Is this component not necessary for XP-E SP2?
Has anyone successfully installed die QFE KB834707 on a XP-E SP2?

Has anyone an advise?

gerros,

I haven't tried installing SP1 QFEs on SP2 but a quick check shows that the KB834707' binaries are older than SP2.

Keep also in mind that most of the MS SP2 binaries have been recently (August) rebuilt so they should include the latest fixes.

km,
Your are realy sure, that the Files of KB824707 are older than SP2?

I've checked the file dates:

File Name:
WindowsXP-KB834707-x86-enu.exe
Download Size:
3019 KB
Date Published:
10/12/2004
Version:
XP_SP2

As you see the Files are from Oktober, and i've made this update on my
XP-Pro development system with SP2 too!

So in my opinion, the update should also be necessary on my XP-Embedded SP2.
Also the windowsupdate agent on my XP-Embedded SP2 Target tell me this.

Any advice why this QFE is not running on my target?

gerros,

Well.. I am not sure about the binaries but here is my thoughts.
Take a look at the QFE Repository and SP2 Repository.
You will noticed that although the FQE was issues October 12, 2004, the QFE binaries seemed to be built much earlier (probably took
some time for MS to test the issues). While SP2 binaries were built later (you can check it out again with SP2 Repository binary
dates check).

For instance, lets compare the version of wininet.dll:
QFE: 834707_wininet.dll - 6.0.2800.1468
SP2: wininet.dll - 6.0.2900.2180

As you can see the SP2's wininet.dll is newer one.

However, I am not clear with the analisys above because I have not check all the binary files there.
Also, http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-038.mspx bulletin says that the SP2 is in the affected software list.
This is confusing. Although it explains why the WU showed you the update is needed.
