Security Update, February 13, 2002 (MSXML 4.0) keeps wanting me to DL

Ron McLendon

I do my updates once a week or so and for some unknown
reason, Windows Update keeps on isisting that I need to
apply the Security Update, February 13, 2002 (MSXML 4.0).
I will DL it, reboot, double check Windows Update, and
there it is again wanting me to download. After applying
it, it tells me it was successful and I need to reboot in
order for it to take effect. I do that and then I'm back
at square one again. Are there any solutions for this?
TIA!

Me too

I have the same problem with a few of the machines on my network. I'm using SUS and this update tries to install every day. Have you found a solution for this yet?

Hopefully a fix

I had the same problem and here's what fixed it for me.

Go to Add and remove programs and check the box that allows for viewing installed updates.

Remove MSXML 4.0 SP2 KB927978 then reboot

Remove MSXML 4.0 SP2 KB925672 then reboot

Clear the log folders that were created on the root of C:\. You can recognize them by the folder names, like: 117a015b3b7516bc3c9c

Now, only install the update labeled: MSXML 4.0 SP2 KB927978 then reboot.

DO NOT install MSXML 4.0 SP2 KB925672
