Security Center settings

When I open the Security Center, the option to "Change the way Security
Center alerts me " is greyed out. Is there a way to change this ? I have
admin rights on this pc.

Dave,

Is the Security Center service started? If not, use these steps to start the
service:

Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
Double-click "Security Center"
Set the startup type to Automatic.
Start the service.

The plot thickens. I have now found this same condition on several XP
computers. The service was not started but was already set to automatic.
However, when I tried starting it, I got an error whcih said the service
started then stopped and that some services only stay running if there is
work to do -- no error code. I don't think this service is one of those
because when I look on other computers, the service is always running.

Any ideas ?

Found it. The computers with the issue were members of a domain and the
Security Center is disabled by default. I got a clue from the event log and
went into the policy manager and found it.

Thanks
