Security Center- Please Help!

Hi- I went into the control panel and clicked on "Security Center". The
message on top told me that the service was unavailable because it
either had never been started or had been shut, I then went into
"Firewall" It was off, so I turned it on. Today I went back in and got
the same message and the firewall was off again. How do I turn the
Security Center on? I have tried to "google" it to no avail.

I also checked my Norton Internet Security- my personal firewall is on.
have a Dell inspiron Notebook- it is my first computer and I know very
little about it.

Please do not email me. My webtv is no longer in use.

Hello.

It sounds like Norton is turning off the Windows Firewall, which would
explain why it's back off after a reboot.

But it also sounds like the Norton software isn't new enough to 'plug-in' to
the Security Center, this means Security Center itself has no idea the
Norton Firewall exists, which is why it's throwing up a warning.

Check on the Norton website to see if there's a patch or update for the
version you're using so Security Center will see it.

If not, you can turn off the Security Center warning by clicking on the
Recommendations button, which will open a new window, and then selecting 'I
have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself'.

Start the Security Center service.

Control Panel (Classic View) > Administrative Tools > Services > located
"Security Center" and double-click.

Set the Security Service to Automatic and the start the service.

I hate to ask this, but how do I do that?

Type the following in the Run dialog box,

services.msc

A windows should open called "Services". Now locate "Security Center". In
the Start up Type drop down menu select "Automatic" and click the "Start"
button.
