Secunia Software Inspector

Just an FYI. This link came courtesy of Fred Langas newsletter, and you can
quickly check your machine for most up-to-date- patches, not just for
Windows itself, but for many popular add-ons like WMP, Java, QT, etc. This
is from Secunia Software, and can be found at:

http://secunia.com/software_inspector/

No installation required.
Minimum requirements to run this:
* Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 2003
* Sun Java JRE 1.5.0_12
* Internet Explorer 6.x, Opera 9.x, or Firefox 2.x
* Latest version of Microsoft Windows Update

It's a beta product. I am not sure why, if it relies on the Windows
Update log, it can find uninstalled updates, which a routine running of
the Custom option in Microsoft Update, would not reveal?

Hi Gerry,

The "Personal Software Inspector" *is* a beta product, but the one I'm
referring to is on the same page, but the left-hand button, which is just
known as their "Online Software Inspector".

It checks more than just MS updates. It also checks to see if you have
outdated or un-patched Quicktime, Java, Flash, etc., that WU would not be
checking.

I just thought it was a handy little tool for those who may be interested,
and it took about 11 minutes for it to scan my machine.

It is a great program which I run periodically. Nice to know
what versions of prgms are unstable or prone to attacks. A great
service from a reputable company.
