secondary domain controller

Hi,

I have 2 W2K servers. 1 is a primary domain controller. The second server
is connecting to the first server as a workgroup. I want to make this
server a secondary domain controller. How can I do this? I've tried adding
the second server to the domain but I get a error message saying "the
credentials you supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials." I
also tried going to Configuring your server to add this server as a
secondary domain controller but I keep getting this error message "the
specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." I went
to the microsoft site to but after following the directions it still didn't
fix it. How do I add this server as a secondary domain controller? Do I
need to do something on the first server as well? Please explain this in
the simplest terms possible. I don't know a lot about networking.

thanks

First check Event Viewer on the Domain Controller for errors. Assuming your
DC is set up and functioning correctly, then:

1. Configure the second server with a static IP address compatible with
that of the DC.

2. Configure the second server to use the IP address of the DC as its
primary DNS server.

3. Reboot the second server.

4. On the second server, disconnect from any mapped drives or shared
folders on the DC and attempt to join the domain.

You need to use "dcpromo" on it and follow the prompts to make it an
additional domain controller in an existing domain that you will have to
enter. Make sure that the server you want to promote is pointing to the
existing domain controller as it's dns server in it's tcp/ip properties and
that it has a static ip address. --- Steve
