Searching with a text file

Why is Agent Ransack able to search for text within a text file, but
Explorer can't do it like it could on older Windows versions?

Programs have features and limitations. For some reason searching for text
strings in many types of files was eliminated in XP Search. If Search
doesn't have the features you prefer/want, use an alternative finder
program such as Agent Ransack.

An article about some file types that were added back to Search with SP2
(added filters): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309173/en-us

Personally, I opted for Agent Ransack (and later FileMaker Pro) when using
XP even after the SP2 improvements. Both gave more complete results even
with file types registered with XP Search....

Vista's Search is better than XP's. It's still not up to par with Agent
Ransack or FileLocater Pro (which has been updated for Vista) but adequate
enough that I haven't installed an alternative search program in Vista yet.
