Searching From The Address Bar

T

t martel

Using Microsoft XP. I am not able to search from the IE6
Address Bar. For example: If I enter "delta" in the
address bar, my response in the address bar is: "http:///?
%20delta" without the quotes, and get "This page cannot
be displayed" at the bottom. I have changed numerous
search setting in IE6, as well as changing setting in the
registry under Search URL. Help.

Hello Mike, The only registry entry I needed to replace
was the one in URLSearchHooks. Mine was empty. I added
the one you provided, but it did not help. However, I
was not sure if all the "0"s were zero's or the letter O.
I tried them all as zeros, and all as letter O. Thanks.

Mike, The info you gave me had quote marks (")
everywhere. I assumed they are not to be entered..is
that correct? Also, in the URL\DefaultPrefix (registry),
you show @="http://". I found only http:// no @ and no
quotes. When I put the @ and the quotes in there, it
gave an error message "cannot find pate or url". I
believe we are in the appropriate area...but I don't
understand EXACTLY what to enter...I think. By the way,
I followed one of your links and found your picture...but
the web address under your picture is incorrect. Thanks
for your help in advance..please do give up on this..I
really want this fixed. Thanks again. tom

Mike, you must thinks I'm nuts, but I finally figured out
how to make that URLSearchHooks entry. I had to create
another entry, and the NAME was the long string of
numbers/letters, and the DATA was two quotes (""). And
the damn thing worked. I as so grateful. I bought my
first computer in 1979, Apple II. Everyday is a learning
process. Thx. tom
