Search Engine

Until recently, every time I wanted to search, I just went to the start menu,
selected search for files and folders, and what is now called the "Search
Companion" came up. Now some stupid "Windows Search" window comes up first,
and I have to tell that window that I want the "Search Companion." I'd
really like to be rid of that whole "Windows Search" window, but I can't find
a way to disable it and just have things work the way they always have.

Is there something I can unload to get rid of this annoyance. In the
address bar for the "Windows Search" window, it says windows search, and in
the search companion window it says "search results," even though there are
no results before you type in what you are looking for and tell it to conduct
the search.

Anyone else annoyed by MS fixing stuff that isn't broken?

You have actually fixed it Your self, You have dowloaded
a service pack and installed a new search system.

Just uninstall it from the control panel add and remove software.

Kind regards

Yep. I am thinking you installed the new Windows Search feature from Windows
Update. I tried it, didn't like it, and uninstalled it like 20 seconds
later.

Yes! You asked. Who the hell at Microsoft made the asinine decision to put
the "Search" command at the top of my shortcut menu? The "Open" command
should be at the top of the menu, and should be the default action when
double-clicking folders. I know where my files are without having to
"search" for them! How do I put "Open" back on the top of the menu? I'm
really close to uninstalling Windows Search - and the old Search Companion is
more useful in the first place. Are the Microsoft developers on drugs, or fo
they enjoy wasting everybody's time with stupid changes - wrecking stuff that
has worked fine for years? Okay, that is my vent for the day - but I still
need to know how to change my shortcut menu back to where it was. Thanks!

You replied to Asger, yet Asger did not ask any questions.

Edit the file associations in the registry.

Asger kindly suggested that to the OP. For what are *you* waiting?
... Microsoft developers ... or fo [sic] they enjoy wasting everybody's
time with stupid changes - wrecking stuff that has worked fine for years?

They must do as they are ordered by management so as to keep their job
at MSFT.
... I still need to know how to change my shortcut menu back to where
it was.

If the above do not resolve your issue, start a new thread and describe
the symptoms and the steps taken to try to remedy them.
