Search doesn't find files that are installed

Search didn't locate mrxdav.sys, a file installed in
C:\Win\System32\drivers. The file was subject in current MS security update.
This non-finding has occurred with other installed files. A search for
today's changed files found the mrxdav.sys in a log file, but that was the
only find. Is the search facility repairable? TIA, any suggestions.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and
verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked
and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need
to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that
the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.
Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected and then
select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total Size, and
Free Space.

Searching from Windows Explorer opt to Search My Computer, enter
mrxdav.sys and check Advanced Options and the top three options from the
drop down menu under Advanced Options.

Hope this helps.

Thanks much, Gerry. I thought I'd done that, but found Protected sys files
unchecked, so checked that. In win Explorer, view, details, I have Size -
"Total Size" not there - checked, but do not have "Free Space". In that
list, I added a check to protected files. Hope that's OK,
The search, following your suggestions, revealed the shy reclusive file.
