The software PaintShop Pro has an excellent facility to capture a specific area of the
screan and then save it in just about any graphic file format.

just to add to that, printscreen will take the entire screen, while
alt-printscreen will take the active window

Press Alt+Print Scrn same time
Open Word processor, Wordpad or software you wish to paste the screen on
Press Ctrl+V same time
