Screen Saver - Installed but won't Enable

Hello All,

After running the .exe to install a new screensaver, it DOES appear in the
Display Properties Screen Saver drop down list. Selecting it in the list
activates the Settings, Preview, and Apply buttons. Features underlying
these buttons also work (mute sound, 3/4 screen, preview, etc). However,
once I click OK the new screen saver never activates. Upon return to the
Display Properties Screen Saver box the selected screensaver has reverted to
(None).

Per other posts in this discussion group I have uninstalled the Power DVD
program. No change. I do not use a wireless mouse. Wired mouse has a
standard green connector.

I checked Symantec/Norton to determine if this program is blocked as a
threat, but it is not listed on their site.

This same program has worked for months as a screensaver on my networked XP
Professional system at the office. This attempt is to install on an
e-machines T6412 running XP Home.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

I am having the very same problem. I have tried contacting dell support with
no help at all. I hope someone out there has a solution to this problem.

Found It! Fixed It!

Was reading other posts about editing the registry, etc., and was perusing
filenames in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory when by chance I noticed that
my screensaver (Deutz Engine) was the only sreensaver with a space character
(blank, whitespace, ascii 20, whatever) in the filename.

Just for fun I made copies of all eight associated files (ssDeutz
Engine.scr, Deutz Engine.001, Deutz Engine.002, Deutz Engine.log, Deutz
Engine.mda, Deutz Engine.scr, Deutz Engine.ssp) and deleted the space out of
each of the copies' filename.

I also edited the .log file to delete the space out of the filenames listed
therein.

Returned to the Display Properties Screen Saver dropdown list and selected
the 'new' screensaver file with no blank in its name. Voila! Screensaver
activates correctly.

Go figure.
