screen resolution pop up notice

Guest

I get an annoying pop up constantly that says to change my resolution to 1024
x 768 for best picture quality. My resolution is already 1024 x 768 and I am
unable to drag icon to lower or higher resolution. Pop up will not go away.
It says 1 to exit and 2 to disable, but hitting 1 or 2 does nothing. How can
I fix this problem?

If you can't move the slider at all to change the resolution(it's greyed
out), then you have to reinstall or update your video card drivers.

Where are you trying the slider? If it's on the popup, that's
just a picture of the slider, not the slider itself; it can't be
dragged.

The statement that 1024x768 provides "best picture quality" is
basically nonsense. What resolution is best for *you* depends on
several factors: the size of your screen, how good your eyes are,
even what apps you run.

Do you run a popup blocking program?

If you get this popup constantly, you may have spyware installed
that's doing it. You should regularly run several anti-spyware
programs, like Ad-aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware
Blaster (a single one doesn't catch everything).

Actually, the prompt to press 1 or 2 is coming from your monitor and not
the computer. You have a flat panel, yes? The numbers to press to
disable the prompt are on the *monitor* and not in Windows.

Thanks for the correction, Malke. What you say makes sense. I
have no experience with flat panels, so that didn't even occur to
me.

Well, I only know this because I saw it on a client's flat panel monitor
and yes, I too looked first to the keyboard #1 and #2. Then I had one
of those "Doh!" moments and pressed the buttons on the monitor. ;-)
