School project done in Vista needs to be for 2000

My grandson created his math project for school on my computer (Vista) and
when he got to school the computers there are Windows 98 (i believe). He said
that his computer teacher told him there is a way to convert the program from
Vista to Windows? Is there anything that i can do?

You have to tell us the name of the program your grandson created the
project in. For instance if your computer running Windows Vista has
Microsoft Office Word 2007 installed and the school is running Windows 98
with Word 2000 or 97, you will have to save your Save your Documents in a
compatible file version.

Click the Office button in Word 2007, select 'Save As' > click Word 97 to
2003. This should make sure that the file formats are the same as those on
the ones at the school. The same applies for Excel 2007 and PowerPoint 2007.

You need to supply a lot more detail before anybody can help you. For openers,
Vista and WinXP and Win98 are Operating Systems (OSs), which probably don't
matter much; the first question is what app (application) was used to create
the math project? I.e., was the math project done in one of the Office apps,
like Word or Excel or Powerpoint? Or, if he actually wrote a program, did
he use C, C++, FORTRAN, BASIC, or something really esoteric (like APL)?

What format did he save it in?
If it was MS Office, he should be able to open the file, then select
File>Save As and pick the older format.

Probably, but you need to clarify the question first.

The fact that your computer runs Windows Vista and the school's
computer runs Windows 98 is irrelevant. The issue is in what program
he created the file (*not* the "program"). Tell us what program that
is--its name *and* version. Also find out from the teacher what
program and version he has that he wants to open the file in.

If for example, he created the file in Word 2007, and the school is
using an older version of Word, that's a very common and easily solved
problem.

If you are using Office 2007 then go into the Application click the Options
for that application. In there click the Save option and change the save
format from .docx to .doc for Word for example. This is because Office 2007
uses a newer format than previous Office version. Just saving it as a .doc
will prevent this issue.

Can either do that or use the Save As option and just make sure when you
save you use the .doc format.
