ScanWizard Pro and Scanmaker 4 - monochrome scans

Hi,
I have a large collection of black-and-white negatives of various sizes
(mostly on 120 size film) dating back to the 1960s and 1970s.
In order to digitize these in the easiest way possible, I have bought a
second hand Mictotek Scanmaker 4 complete with all the cut film holders
and the original software.
Everything installs OK, and the scanner works fine with colour
negatives, slides and prints.
However, I have a problem with b&w scans.
When I have the Scanwizard software open and I am attempting to set the
scan material selection I can choose from Reflective, Positive Film or
Negative film in the drop down window.
However, the Settings floating window (where the Image Type selection is
made) will only allow me to scan as RGB colour image. When I click on
this window to try and get the dropdown window to get more selections,
this selection wobbles slightly, but does not offer any other choices.
I see in the handbook that I should be able to choose from RGB
Color/CMYK Color/Lab Color/Web Internet Color/Greyscale/Line
Art/Black-and-White Diffusion in this window. I guess in order to scan
the monochrome images, I should choose Grayscale in this menu, but I
cannot do this. Thus the scanned monochrome negative come out with a
strong orange tint and are quite unusable.
Am I missing something here? Is there any other way of adjusting the
image type, or have I made an error in the installation?

I am running WinXP Pro, and accessing the scanner using Jasc Paintshop
Pro v9 to import the image from Scanwizard Pro v3.04

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

ScanWizard Pro (all versions) is very picky about CMS profiles. Your
installation may not have included all of the required CMS files, and thus
your options are limited. I'd recommend the following:

* Get the current version of ScanWizard Pro and all related files from
Microtek's site.

* BE SURE to follow the instructions regarding the complete uninstallation
of your current ScanWizard files (from their Knowledgebase). Simply
"uninstalling" will not clean up your registry, and subsequent
re-installations can be very flaky.

* BE SURE to follow the instructions for re-installation, particularly
having your scanner disconnected while installing the software.

Good luck!

I wondered if your ScanWizard Pro 3.04 was specified to work with Windows
XP? I dont know that it doesnt do XP, but 3 is older than XP, so I
suspect not. Their Scanwizard version numbering system appears to be
versions 2 and 5 are non-Pro, and 3 and 6 are Pro.

Microsoft doesnt seem to make the Pro version of ScanWizard available for
download, so you may need to contact them about it.

The Microtek download for the 4 provides ScanWizard 2.60 (not pro, no
profiles). The 2.60 version will work with Windows XP and has all you
need. At minimum, at least it seems a good test to see if it bypasses the
problem. Frankly, I prefer to use the non-pro version anyway.
