Scanner for big transparency

Hi,

I am a dentist and I need a Scanner to scan big transparencies (it
will be xrays films 30 x 15 cms).

I dont want a professional scanner, just a good regular scanner.

PLease help.

Looking on eBay I have noticed several USB connected X-ray scanners
specifically designed for dentists. The prices seem modest, around £70
(c$100?). The unit is quite small, I don't think my own dentist could
easily accommodate a conventional flatbed scanner with an overhead
light source capable of scanning transparencies such as our Epson
4990.

transparency. I am checking the Epson 4990 Photo or Pro (is the
same?), that´s perfect, isnt it? also its not expensive.

Any other model to check? (in my country that model its not sold, I
may have to import it)

Scanning reflective material (photos, news clips etc) is quite easy
and there are many scanners that will do a good job. If you get a
scanner from Epson, Cannon, HP you probably can't go wrong. Scanning
slides or negatives requires another light source, typically above the
original, so this makes the scanner much bulkier, heavier, complicated
and therefore expensive.

It's also more difficult to get rid of dust from a small target such
as a 35mm so scratch and dust removal hardware such as Digital ICE is
really worth buying. It will save hours retouching scanned slides and
negatives but of course it also adds to the cost. I think another
manufacturer had something called FARE which was said to reduce
scratches. I personally favour Epson models so any with Digital ICE
capable of scanning slides will do the job.

If you want to scan your dental slides plus other slides / negatives
go for Digital ICE - current Epsons seem to be V300, V500, V600 and so
on. If the only transparencies you need to scan are the dental scans
maybe a dedicated scanner for those and a more basic flatbed for your
photos etc.
